Modern Low-E (low-emissivity) windows are designed to be energy efficient. They have a metallic coating that reflects heat — which keeps your home cooler in summer. But that same coating turns your windows into a curved mirror that focuses reflected sunlight into a concentrated beam aimed directly at your backyard.
That focused beam can reach temperatures exceeding 200°F. Artificial turf — made from polyethylene — begins to melt and deform at around 175°F. The result is melted, warped, or discolored turf in specific spots that align perfectly with your window positions.

Film Options for Turf Protection

Diffusion Window Film
Scatters reflected light in multiple directions instead of focusing it. Applied to interior or exterior glass. Effective for most residential Low-E window configurations.
Exterior Matte Film
Creates a non-reflective matte surface on the outside of the glass. Eliminates the mirror effect entirely. Ideal for concave window configurations that create the most intense beams.
